The Central Drakensberg offers a wide range of interesting and exciting activities – there is something for everyone, from enjoying a concert or music festival at the world renowned Drakensberg Boys’ Choir to riding the high wire at the Drakensberg Canopy Tour and then a relaxing treatment at one of the spa centres.

HIKING & TRIALS

There is nothing to beat the thrills of experiencing the true nature of our mountains from the majestic peaks to the crystal clear streams. Various grades of hikes and walks available from the Monks Cowl Nature Reserve of the Okhahlamba Drakensberg Park.

There are several local walks available from the Drakensberg Sun Hotel, notably, the Grotto which is a lovely waterfall into a swimmable pool, accessed via a couple of hours hike through an indigenous forest area – ideal for that hot day.

MOUNTAIN BIKING & TRAIL RUNNING

Whether mountain biking, trail running or just stretching your legs, there are a network of trails around the valley and you can curate your route depending on your desired distance.

Mountain Splendour Trails are adjacent to our property and are a firm favourite.

MTB and E-Bikes can be hired from Mountain Splendour.

Cathkin Trails also offers various trail routes, starting/finishing at the Drakensberg Brewery is a firm Favourite.

Lastly there is also Champagne Castle Adventure Centre.

BIRD WATCHING

Falcon Ridge Bird of Prey Centre hold shows daily at 10h00 (weather permitting) – except for Fridays and Mondays.

Hlatikulu Crane & Wetland Sanctuary. An interesting morning out which can be combined with a visit to the Bushmen paintings at Giant’s Castle.

DRAGON ROCK REPTILE CENTRE

The Reptile Centre will be sure to get your heart racing! But the aim of this centre is to educate and hopefully leave you with a better understanding of the reptiles that occur naturally around us.

From Aligators and snakes to lizards, there is something for everyone.

Three tours daily, 10h00, 12h00 or 14h00.

DRAKENSBERG CANOPY TOURS

Drakensberg Canopy Tours is another highlight which you cannot miss, it blends adventure and adrenalin with a bit of education of our indigenous forests.

The tour guides come highly recommended! Several zip lines of up to 60m above the valley, from tree platforms to cliff faces, you will be entertained throughout.
