HOOPOE & KINGFISHER COTTAGES
For that special occasion, honeymoon or escape from the stress of everyday life in the city, Hoopoe & Kingfisher are the ideal romantic getaway for a couple. Whether you relax in your own jacuzzi on the private patio with magnificent views of Cathkin and Champagne Peaks or participate in the many activities in the Central Drakensberg, the cottages offer a secluded haven for you to relax and unwind!
The following features are to be found in each of our cottages:
- An open plan “loft style” area with king size bed, lounge, dining and fully equipped kitchen areas.
- En suite bathroom with bath, basin, toilet, indoor and outdoor showers.
- A jacuzzi on a charcoal braai patio with panoramic views of the mountains.
- DSTV and DVD.
- Ceiling Fans
- Wi-Fi
- Log fireplace and under-floor heating.
- All linen, towels, outdoor towels and cleaning materials are provided. A mid week service and linen change is provided.
- Swimming pool and fishing dam on site. A range of activities from the Canopy Tour to the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir School are situated close by. See our Activities for more details.
- The cottages sleep two persons in either a king size or two single beds.
A deposit of 50% of the accommodation rental will secure a booking and must be paid within 3 days of making a booking. The balance may be paid before taking up accommodation or on arrival.
Card facilities are available online on this site.
- Ama Casa reserves the right to deny access or evict guests who cause unnecessary damage or disruption to other guests at the establishment. In addition, payment for these bookings will be forfeited at the sole discretion of the owners of the establishment.

- No children under 13 years unless by prior arrangement.

CORONA CANCELLATION POLICY – EFFECTIVE 16 MARCH 2020 UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. (AMENDED APRIL 2020)
Existing bookings:
1. Confirmed bookings for which we have received a deposit or full payment, will be secured should you, (or your clients) decide it unsafe to travel or cannot travel.
2. Bookings can be amended up to 12 (twelve) months from the original arrival date. However, should the season change to a higher rate season, the new rate will apply.
3. In the event that you (or your clients,) do not travel within 12 (twelve) months of the original arrival date, unless by prior arrangement, the deposit paid would be forfeited.
4. Any travel changes to bookings within 14 (fourteen) days of the travel period will incur 100% cancellation fees.
New bookings:
All the standard terms, deposits and cancellation policy are back in operation.
Exceptions:
We will have the following exceptions where bookings are cancelled within 14 days of travel, whereby clients will be offered the same deferral policy as above:
1. If the country of the clients’ residence prevents the client from leaving due to lockdown and unavailability of commercial flights.
2. If South Africa issues an inbound travel ban, banning clients from entering, or forcing arriving clients into quarantine.
Refunds:
1. In order for us to ride out this global epidemic storm as a privately owned travel & tourism business, we are unable to offer any refunds at this time although, as described above, bookings may be deferred to a future date.
2. We trust that our partners and guests understand our situation; we are doing all we can to work with our guests and partners to find mutually agreeable solutions.
3. This step is necessary to ensure that our business can continue to operate through these difficult times so that we will be here for you when the storm blows over.
4. We reserve the right to make changes to these new terms and conditions at any time and will send out notifications.
As soon as the Corona Virus epidemic has been contained we will revert back to our original terms and conditions for bookings.
ORIGINAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS
- 100% of full amount less 10% administration fee and third party commissions (if applicable) will be refunded for cancellations 60 days or more prior to arrival date
- 50% of full amount less 10% administration fee and third party commissions (if applicable) will be refunded for cancellations 30 days or more prior to arrival date
- No refunds for cancellations less than 30 days prior to arrival date unless special arrangements are made with the owner.
- No refunds for late arrivals or early departures.
- All deposit refunds will be subject to the discretion of the owner.
IN RESPONSE TO THE DYNAMIC COVID-19 SITUATION WE ALL FIND OURSELVES IN
We would like to share with you what actions we are taking as we adapt to the “new normal” at Ama Casa Cottages. Rest assured we are adhering to all the required safety and hygiene protocols. Providing safe and clean environments for our guests and staff is a top priority for us and yet at the same time we would like to maintain that “home away from home” feel that you all love about Ama Casa.
Guided by The Tourism Industry Standard Protocols for COVID-19 Operations we have had to heighten our standards for hygiene and cleanliness at Ama Casa and this has meant changing a few “norms” to align with these protocols. We would like to personally ensure the well-being of every guest from the moment a reservation is confirmed till check-out.
Dave and Les and all our staff have been vaccinated against Covid-19.
OUT OF RESPECT FOR OUR TEAM MEMBERS AND OUR GUESTS, WE COMMIT TO BUILDING TRUST AND CONFIDENCE BY:
QUESTIONNAIRE All persons entering the premises will be required to complete a short questionnaire before arrival to ensure they are free from any sickness and have not had contact with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the previous 14 days.
TEMPERATURE SCREENING Temperature of all persons entering the premises will be checked and all staff will be checked prior to the start of their work shift.
USE MASKS Everyone to wear masks in public areas.
HAND SANITIZER Hand sanitiser is available in each cottage
OWN GLOVES Gloves are not recommended in the protocols we have received, however you are welcome to have your own.
DISINFECTION All non-porous, metal or plastic non-disposable equipment, as well as surfaces, will be cleaned and then disinfected between bookings
SOCIAL DISTANCING Physical distancing protocols to be maintained by ensuring 2 metres between individuals.
Dave and Les are responsible for all the cleaning and sanitising of your cottage. Age-wise we are in the ‘danger zone’ and therefore we respectfully request that you assist us by ensuring that all your soiled dishes and kitchenware are left cleaned and washed. After we have checked you into your cottage we shall not be entering the cottage again for servicing purposes during your stay. I know that this is an irregular request but we hope that you understand that desperate times call for desperate measures.
